Entertainment in Sarasota

Life in Sarasota is spiced up

by many interesting things and events

. . . and it is a great place for people of all ages . . .

Festivals

Throughout the years, there are many outdoor festivities. They peak during the exceptionally mild wintertime.

Some of the typical Sarasota festivals:

- Sarasota's International Film Festival draws every ear national and international audiences.

- Art Festivals, comprising mostly exhibitions of paintings and craft-works.

- Medieval Times Festivals, reminiscent of the romantic time of noble chivalry and of the troubadours.

- Wine-Fests, sponsored by diverse organizations at different times over the year.

And then, there are numerous festivities and shows all year round, sponsored by affinity groups, such as boat shows and races, antique car shows,  etc.

Gourmet Restaurants

Due to its sophisticated cosmopolitan population, Sarasota exhibits an exceptional variety of fine restaurants with local as well as exotic food, for every wallet.

Upscale restaurants are nicely spread throughout town, while excellent meals at modest prices, within pleasantly styled family restaurant and eateries abound.

Visitors may also wonder whether   they would find alligator food, i.e.   dishes with alligator meat. Now,   since alligators are not an   endangered species anymore in   Florida, the answer is yes. Ask for it   at an authentic tropical lodge. And   you may find that alligator meat   tastes like chicken.

Dancing

While there are few discos and restaurants with dinner-dance, many clubs, and affinity groups have regular events, which may include entertainment, gourmet-dinners and dancing. Guest are generally welcome.

And then, of course, there are   the romantic dinner-dance   cruises in the tropical setting. It   is a popular experience, which   can be enjoyed repeated over   and over again.

Circus

After the Ringling-Barnum Circus had chosen Sarasota for heir Winter Quarters for so many years, Sarasota had become the nation's circus metropolis.

And with some luck, you may be able to shake hands with with the famous artists, acrobats and dare-devils that made the world news, such as crossing the Niagara Falls and the Grand Canyon on a string.

Horse lovers might also enjoy the famous Viennese Lippizzaner horse-riding school, which offers first class performances during their Winter residency in Sarasota.

Sight-Seeing

This is a favorite pastime for vacationers. It includes strolling through the Downtown galleries and the romantic St. Armands Circle on Lido key, with its selective boutiques, jewelry stores and first class restaurants.

Further, visiting the botanical garden and taking nature investigating tours, like a boat ride on Myakka Park to see plenty of alligators in their natural habitat, are among the popular activities.

And things not to forget include a visit of the Mote Aquarium and the adjacent Pelican Refuge, as well as the Wild Cat Habitat.

Finally, across the Marina Jack, the promenade within the Bay Area leading to the Fountain of the Dolphins is a most picturesque and romantic walk.

Gambling

For whomever is interested in gambling, there is a challenging Dog Race in town.

Further, a Casino Boat that takes off to the open seas for enough time to test one's abilities and luck, might run during the high season. Check availability.

Sporting Events

Baseball games at the Ed Smith Stadium are the sporting events that attract the most people. Then they are golf and tennis tournaments, polo games, etc., mentioned elsewhere on this site.
